A much careful study is required when choosing a second hand car. Different from buying a brand new car, you might run into unexpected problems or difficulties if you can’t spot thoes hidden issues before confirming the deal.
Here is the check list I’ve been using. It covers a wide range of things and pretty easy to follow. Bring it with you and I’m sure it’ll help.
When you using this list, keep in mind that the goal is not to capture a flawless car but to find out what has happened to it, something neither the car dealer nor the owner would tell you staight.
By law, any considerable accidents or natural hazard event (like a flood damage) need to be recorded. So every time I saw the sign of a previous demage, I looked into the VIN history report to identify it.
On the other hand, if the record indicated an avent but I can’t tell merely from looking, I would ask the prevous owner for more information. In my opnion this is the one of the best parts about buying used cars by owner.
